How to determine the best location for your swimming pool

It’s time. You have decided that you want a swimming pool in your back garden. You may have reached this decision for several reasons, like wanting to pamper yourself with pleasing wellness facilities in your home and garden. Or perhaps a swimming pool fits in well with your healthy, active lifestyle. You can even see a swimming pool as an investment, a feature that will not only benefit you right away but also increase the value of your home should you decide to sell.
Perhaps you already have a good idea about where you would like your swimming pool to go. We would like to mention a few of the things you should keep in mind when determining the best location for your pool in your garden.

Your pool’s location in relation to the sun

One of the most important aspects in determining the correct orientation of your pool is the position of the sun during the day. You can save a lot of money by having the sun heat your pool. What’s more, it’s a lot nicer to swim in full sunlight. So, first check which spots in your garden get the most hours of sunshine.

Take shade into account when planning your pool's location

Your home and any trees could cast a shadow on the pool, and if your pool is partly shaded heating the water will take more energy. Besides, swimming in the shade can quickly become unpleasant. If you have small children, it is advisable to create a shaded area at the shallow end to protect their sensitive skin from sunburn. For the best orientation of your swimming pool, map out which parts of your garden are shaded and which remain in the sun and take this into account.

Safety is also important when determining your pool’s location

If you have children or pets you would be well advised to pay special attention when deciding on the location of your swimming pool. You will want to be able to see as much of the garden as possible from your home so that you can always keep an eye on the children. In this case it’s a good idea to have the pool installed as close to your home as possible. If you have a large garden, the best location for a pool may be further from the house, in which case you can have a separate pool house built where you can keep a close eye on the kids. Having a Roldeck® pool cover installed along with your pool is also a good way to increase safety in your garden.

Also take the area surrounding your pool into consideration. Wooden decking is non-slip if you regularly clean algae and other green matter from it. The tiles around your pool should have a rough texture to reduce the risk of falling.

What do you want to place around your pool?

Have you taken the filter pump into consideration in determining the location of your pool? The further the pool is from the pump, the harder the pump has to work. You can place your filter system in a pool house no more than 15 meters from your swimming pool. Whether you choose wooden decking or a tiled floor, it’s advisable to keep a free space of at least one and a half meters around your pool. Once you have determined the location of your swimming pool, ensure there is sufficient room around it for sun loungers and a garden sofa set. This way you can be assured of many hours of pleasant relaxation in your garden.
